Ultem

Ultem, chemically known as polyetherimide (PEI), belongs to a family of amorphous thermoplastic materials valued for their exceptional strength, stiffness, and chemical resistance. It is naturally flame resistant and doesn't require additional additives to achieve this feat. It's widely available in rod and sheet and can be reinforced to enhance its mechanical properties.
PEI Ultem has excellent creep resistance over a wide temperature range and has a high continuous use operating temperature as well. In addition, it has good resistance to hydrolysis, all while offering dimensional stability.
Common applications include:
- Electronics: Used in coils, fuses, and semiconductor components
- Aerospace: Antennae, Satellite, and various Aircraft components
- Medical: Various surgical instrumentation due to its ability to withstand sterilization
