Vespel

Precision Vespel Parts Machining

Vespel combines exceptional thermal stability with outstanding mechanical performance in extreme environments. Vespel components provide structural integrity and dimensional stability across an extraordinary temperature range from cryogenic (-400°F/-240°C) to 550°F (288°C) continuous operation, with excursions up to 900°F (482°C), making it ideal for applications where other high-performance plastics would fail.

With superior creep resistance, excellent wear properties, and remarkable dimensional stability, Vespel components excel in aerospace, semiconductor, and automotive applications. This specialized high-performance polyimide, produced by DuPont, is available in multiple grades including SP-1 (unfilled), SP-21 (15% graphite), SP-22 (40% graphite), SP-3 (MoS₂ filled), and SP-211 (PTFE/graphite), each offering specific performance characteristics.

Key Advantages of Machined Vespel Components

  1. Exceptional thermal stability from cryogenic to extremely high temperatures
  2. Outstanding creep resistance under high loads and temperatures
  3. Superior wear resistance in both lubricated and dry environments
  4. Excellent dimensional stability and minimal outgassing

This unique material provides excellent performance in bearings, bushings, thrust washers, valve seats, seals, insulators, and wear components where high temperature stability, dimensional precision, and reliability are essential. The aerospace, semiconductor, automotive, and defense industries particularly value Vespel's unique combination of thermal resistance, mechanical strength, and long-term durability in extreme conditions.
